CLACTON 5

LOWESTOFT & YARMOUTH 25

London League division three north-east

DESPITE a battling display, Clacton were second-best to an organised side from Lowestoft and Yarmouth.

This was a game that had been started in February, but was abandoned following a serious injury to the referee.

Clacton were leading 24-0 when the match was called off, but that now counts for nothing in the record books.

Fielding one of their youngest sides, the Seasiders took an early lead with a Lee Amman try.

However, despite matching their opposition in the forward department, the powerful Lowestoft and Yarmouth backs were constantly causing holes to appear.

They steadily gained control of the game, scoring three unanswered tries.

Two of them were converted and they also kicked two penalties, to secure a 25-5 win.

On Saturday, Clacton have a bottom-of-the-table clash at Billericay.

With just three rounds of games to go, both sides are already relegated, but there is just one point between them and this fixture could decide who ends up in last place.

When they met at Vista Road in December, it ended in a rare 34-17 win for Clacton.

The club’s second side, the Kestrels, were without a fixture, but this Saturday they play host to Colchester’s third team.

This will be their final Eastern Counties League division three south match of the season and kick-off at Vista Road is at 3pm.
