YOUNGSTERS impressed at a “Hi 5” tournament organised by the Coastal Storms Netball Academy.

A dozen primary schools from across Tendring competed at Clacton Coastal Academy, in Jaywick Lane.

The schools were split into two groups and the top two from each played for a place in the final.

This pitted Brightlingsea against Hamford and Walton against Cann Hall.

Both Walton and Brightlingsea made it through the final, with the eventual winners – after an exciting match and extra-time – being Brightlingsea.

Frinton won a separate competition to be crowned the most sporting team on the day, just getting the better of Great Bentley.

Coastal Storms joint head coach Karen Trigg said: “Throughout the day, we came across so much talent and would like to think the players will take the game further.”

Other teams to take part were Two Village, White Hall, Lawford, St Clares, Engaines and Frobisher.

In addition to 110 players, Coastal Storms were indebted to the help of 17 Young Leaders from Tendring Technology College and Clacton Coastal Academy.

Coastal Storms are holding their second holiday camp on April 9, at Clacton Coastal Academy, in Jaywick Lane, from 10am until 3pm.

The cost is £20 and the camp is for youngsters between the ages of five and 16.

The club has now expanded to welcome ladies.

“We made the decision at the beginning of February to open the club up to ladies because there was a big interest,” said Faye.

“Clacton used to have 22 teams in their league but now there’s nothing.

“Hopefully, we’ll be able to bring it all back and not just for the ladies but for a junior league as well.”

Friendly matches are being held on Monday, when both the Hurricanes (ages 12 to 16) and ladies will take on Colchester institute.

Club sessions are held on Monday evenings, from 6pm until 7pm (ages five to 11), 7pm to 8pm (ages 12 to 16) and 8pm to 9pm (ladies).

There is a small fee of £3.
