CLACTON 0

London League division three north-east

AFTER another heavy defeat, Clacton’s players and supporters are counting the days to the end of a miserable season.

This result leaves them planted at the foot of the table, although there remains the possibility of going above Billericay when the two sides meet in a fortnight’s time.

Before that, Clacton have a home match this coming weekend.

It is the re-arranged fixture against Lowestoft and Yarmouth, which had to be abandoned in February following a serious injury to the referee.

It is symptomatic of the Seasiders’ fortunes this season that they were leading 24-0 when the game came to a premature halt just on half-time, but they will now have to start all over again.

Kick-off at Vista Road is at 3pm.

There was better fortune for Clacton’s second string, the Kestrels.

Their Eastern Counties League division three south fixture with Woodbridge’s second team fell by the wayside when the Suffolk side cried off on Thursday morning.

However, a very sporting Maldon third team stepped into the breach and travelled up for a friendly.

On a pleasant spring afternoon, despite the nagging wind, the two sides served up a veritable try-fest.

The first half finished fairly even at three tries apiece, with the Kestrels just holding a 19-17 lead.

However, the second half saw the home side score another seven tries.

The visitors managed two more as well and it left the final score as 62-31.

The try-scorers for the Kestrels were Matt King (two), Dan Land (two), Nick Evans, Tom Nation, Billy Hedges, Richard Blanes, Tom Hill and Lewis Watson, with Tom Nation adding six conversions.
