PHILIP Goode won on countback in the monthly Havers Course stableford competition at Frinton Golf Club.

He triumphed with a score of 38 points.

Forty-nine men and women entered and the course was in good condition.

Terry Mullins came second, also with 38, and Andrew Bailey was third, with a close 37.

The highest finish for a lady was junior Lily Taylor, with 33.

The club’s Poker Circle golf day and dinner was held on Saturday.

The format was foursomes and the pairing of Alec Rowley and Ian Chamberlain won with an amazing score of 44 points.

Meanwhile, the ladies played a greensomes competition and lady captain Judy Taylor won it with partner Caroline Gard, with 18 points.

Margaret Dean and Jan Wright were second, with 16.

Frinton’s juniors had a matchplay competition against Clacton and won 4&2.

Frinton’s new bar is due to open by Easter.

It needs a good name and suggestions are welcome.

The best entry will win a Sunday lunch for two.
