MYLES Ashforth claimed a bronze medal at the third round of the Elite Epee Junior Series.
The Kirby-le-Soken fencer competed in the under-13 boys’ category at the event in Northantamptonshire.
He started as the fourth seed and won four of his five poule fights to be ranked fifth in the direct eliminations.
In the first round, Ashforth met the 28th seed and secured a 15-4 win.
He then met the 12th seed and dispatched his opponent with another 15-4 victory.
In the last eight, fighting the 13th seed, Ashforth fenced effectively to secure the match 15-6.
The Tendring Technology College student now faced the number one seed, Jacob Foulsham.
In a tense semi-final, neither fencer could pull ahead for almost the entire bout.
However, in the third and final part of the fight, Ashforth’s attack was countered by a parry riposte.
Foulham led 13-12, before another attack was countered.
Another attack by Foulsham led to him winning 15-12.
