EIGHTY Clacton Golf Club seniors took part in a nine-hole shotgun start stableford competition.

The winner of the nine-hole event was past captain Robert Gillespie, with 22 points.

In second was Dave Mills, with 21, on countback from third-placed Alf Smith.

In fourth, again on countback and also with 21 points, was Tony White.

Members were pleased to see him back in action again after a long illness.

The seniors’ section AGM was held afterwards and began with a presentation of prizes for the 2014 season.

These were presented by 2014 captain Peter Savage.

Savage then officially opened the meeting and asked that all members stand in memory of departed trio Alan Chambery, Colin Orpen and John Purcell.

Savage then thanked the seniors for making his year so enjoyable and for all their hard work. The section played 56 competitions and matches, with 139 members competing during the 2014 season.

This was a record number.

A vote was taken for the 2015 officers, which resulted in Tony Burnside being elected vice-captain and Ray Fage, Jeff Sinnott and John Willson being elected to the committee.

New captain Joe Middleton was then presented with his captain’s jacket and tankard.

Meanwhile, Clacton’s men played their tenth Top Dogs event.

It was the last round of this winter marathon and the winners were Matt Baker and Adam Powell, with 46 points.

In second were Steve James and Clayton Jeffey, with 42 points, on countback from third-placed Graham Currie and David Lee.

Clacton’s Tuesday morning ladies played a team stableford competition and the winners were Pat Messenger, Judy Speck and Sue Gurry, with 52 points.

In second were Sonja Strutt, Jackie Bright and Janet Smith, with 47, and in third were Brenda Lord, Janet Hiller and Pat Gilbert, with 46.
