FC CLACTON manager David Coyle says his team must go back to “absolute basics” ahead of Saturday’s trek to Fakenham Town.

The Seasiders are licking their wounds after another crushing setback.

They suffered an 11-3 defeat at Godmanchester Rovers on Saturday – seven days after their 6-0 hammering at Hadleigh United.

Coyle insists last week’s performance was “anything but awful” and pointed to one “major positive” – the goals and chances his side scored and created against title-chasing opposition.

However, he says defensively, they have to go back to the drawing board before travelling to Norfolk.

And he admits he has a “big job” on his hands lifting his shell-shocked players.

“We have to put last weekend behind us and move on,” he said.

“It’s gone now.

“We can’t dwell on it and our focus has to be on Fakenham.

“We could have played brilliantly last week, been two-up and ended up losing 3-2.

“We’d still have finished empty-handed, without any points, just as we did after losing 11-3.

“We’ll be going back to absolute basics, in terms of our defensive shape and organisation.

“We’ve got to make ourselves hard to beat again, like some of the other sides down there with us in the table.

“Diss are bottom of the table but have drawn four of their last five matches, while Ely, who had been bottom, won at Brantham on Saturday.”
