Tom Cook's late goal saw Halstead Town earn their place in the Thurlow Nunn League Cup quarter-finals with a 2-1 win against FC Clacton.

The division one hosts beat their premier division visitors with two goals in the last 20 minutes after falling behind to a first-half strike from the Seasiders' Adam Daniels.

Daniels bundled the ball over the line from a corner to give Clacton a half-time lead, but the hosts made changes after the break and one of those earned them the breakthrough in the 73rd minute.

Just 13 minutes after replacing Jordan Hutchings, former FC Clacton player Kalon Harms picked up a lovely cross-field ball before turning inside and slamming a left-foot shot low into the net against a club he only left a few weeks ago.

It ste up a tense finale and it was Halstead who held their nerve best.

Aaron Chinnery was felled on the edge of the box and Cook stepped forward to drill a low free-kick under the jumping Clacton wall and past Liam Daniels in the visitors' goal.

It came deep in stoppage time and gave the Seasiders no chance to reply as Halstead set up a second-round tie at Rosemary Lane on November 25 against AFC Sudbury Reserves.
