IT proved a disastrous day for north Essex’s Thurlow Nunn League contingent.

With the exception of first division side HALSTEAD TOWN, there were defeats for top-flight quartet STANWAY ROVERS, WIVENHOE TOWN, FC CLACTON and BRANTHAM ATHLETIC.

Rovers suffered only their second league loss, going down 1-0 at home to Godmanchester Rovers.

Wivenhoe, meanwhile, slid to a 5-1 defeat at Mildenhall.

Mildenhall were three goals to the good by half-time and added a fourth after the break.

Substitute Joe Heron pulled one back but the hosts twisted the knife by adding a fifth.

Clacton went down 3-1 at Norwich United.

The Seasiders made a bright start and took the lead midway through the first half, when Brightlingsea Regent loanee Charlie Thompson converted Aaron Condon’s cross.

However, Norwich levelled on the stroke of half-time and then got their noses in front thanks to an unfortunate own goal by James Bolton.

That was on 76 minutes and the hosts’ third, on the counter-attack, followed on 88.

Clacton had been due to host Grays Athletic in the Essex Senior Cup on Tuesday night but the tie has now been postponed because Grays, managed by former Heybridge Swifts boss Jody Brown, have an FA Cup replay at Bromley.

Brantham’s defeat came in the form of a 2-0 setback against Newmarket Town.

Halstead were in First Division Knockout Cup action at home to Downham.

And the Humbugs were 4-0 victors, thanks to a brace from Tom Cook and goals by Jordan Hutchings and Regan Farley-Hearn.

BRAINTREE TOWN RESERVES lost 5-2 at new division one leaders Swaffham.
