PROUD Frinton Cricket Club skipper Mark Jones believes his title-winning team can become a force in the Gibbs Denley East Anglian Premier League.

The coastal side are just one victory from a crack at the elite league, after securing top spot in the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship.

Saturday’s eight-wicket success at home to Witham left them top of division one – five points clear of Coggeshall, who won by six wickets at Mildenhall.

Frinton are now preparing for one of the biggest games in their history at Cambs Tucker Gardner League division one champions Ramsey on Saturday.

The winners will gain promotion to the holy grail of the East Anglian Premier League (EAPL).

“This weekend is massive because we want to play Premier League cricket,” said Jones, whose side were defeated in the play-off last season, against Wisbech.

“It’s going to happen sometime soon – I’m sure of that – and hopefully it’ll be next season."
