REIGNING champion Phil Ledgerton successfully defended his Clacton Eight Ball Singles League title.

It wasn’t plain sailing for him, after an early loss to Tim Flaherty and being held to a draw by Bill Kyle.

However, it was business as usual for the rest of the season and the title was decided in the final match of the season.

Ledgerton emerged as champion by just two points, ahead of former winner Michael Puntschart, and just three points better off than third-placed premier division debutant Kyle.

Ledgerton was not able to defend his Knockout Cup title, after losing in the semi-finals at the hands of Kyle. Kyle then faced last year’s runner up, Flaherty (pictured right).

The latter was determined to go one step further this year and he did not drop a single frame in the final, taking the match 5-0.

The Clacton Singles League is an annual pool competition open to all players of any ability.

It is played in a league format but players play as individuals rather than teams.

The next season starts in March.
