STANWAY ROVERS ran out 2-1 winners in tonight’s Thurlow Nunn League premier division derby against FC CLACTON.
Richie Meadows put the hosts in front midway through the first half, connecting with a long pass forward, cutting inside and then firing a low, left-footed shot inside the right-hand post.
Former Clacton boss Ray Turner then doubled Rovers’ lead, heading from a corner on 49 minutes.
Jake Clowsley produced a precise, low finish to give the Seasiders hope.
But Stanway held on, absorbing some late pressure, to secure their first victory of the season.
Adam Hampson had missed an early half-chance for the hosts, while Clacton’s Louie Newland clipped the bar with a header after being picked out by Mark Bailey.
Elsewhere, the match between BRANTHAM ATHLETIC and Felixstowe & Walton was abandoned, due to a floodlight failure. Felixstowe were winning 2-0.
