FRINTON Cricket Club can put themselves in “pole position” for championship glory this weekend – if they beat one of their main title rivals.

The coastal side are preparing for one of their biggest fixtures of the season when they head to Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship division one leaders Coggeshall.

Frinton are second, locked together on the same number of points as their rivals heading into their crunch showdown at Harefield.

And skipper Mark Jones hopes his side can leapfrog their opponents and be top of the pile by Saturday night.

“It’s another really big game and one we’re all looking forward to,” he said.

“Coggeshall are doing very well and look a good side this season, so we know how tough it’s going to be.

“Whoever wins will deserve to be top of the table and they’ll be in pole position to go on and win the title.

“They’ll fancy their chances and hopefully it’ll be us in that position by the end of Saturday.

“We’re certainly enjoying the challenge and we’re confident in our ability, having only lost twice in two years.

“But we respect our rivals and it’s good to see a few different sides up there with us this season, like Coggeshall, Sudbury, Mistley and Wivenhoe.”
