FC CLACTON boss Glenn Eldridge is in talks with two goalkeepers in case he needs to replace Joe Fowler.

The club’s regular number one is weighing up his options after being approached by a rival Thurlow Nunn League premier division side.

He was due to speak to the other team’s manager yesterday and make his decision by the close of play last night.

Eldridge is keen to keep Fowler – last season’s supporters’ player-of-the-year and joint players’ player – at the Rush Green Bowl.

But with the club’s first pre-season friendly less than a week away, he says he cannot run the risk of being left without a senior shot-stopper.

“I don’t want to lose Joe because he’s such an important member of our squad,” said the Clacton boss.

“But I have to cover myself and that’s why I’ve been in contact with two other keepers.

“I can’t be in a situation where we’re left short, just a few days before the friendlies start, and I have to put the interests of the club first.”
