SWIMMERS from 17 different clubs took part in Clacton Swimming Club’s annual Round the Pier race, in support of the RNLI.

This is a 1,200-metre tide-assisted swim, begining at the Anglefield beach and ending below Nelson Road.

Seventy-three swimmers took part, from as far afield as Hackney, Hornchurch, Hertford, Newmarket and Diss, as well as a number of Clacton stalwarts.

With the water temperature warming up significantly in the last two weeks, the swimmers were faced with flat seas and a fast current to help push them along, making for ideal conditions.

First home was defending champion Jarrod Bradfield in a close-to-record time of 15 minutes and seven seconds, taking first place in the men’s competition.
