AWARD-WINNING FC Clacton goalkeeper Joe Fowler has vowed to keep improving and become “twice the player” he was in 2013/14.

The shot-stopper was recently crowned both supporters’ player-of-the-year and joint players’ player, along with Louie Newland.

And far from resting on his laurels, the former Maldon and Tiptree man is determined to play an even bigger role in his second season with the Seasiders.

“I was elated and very honoured to receive the awards, especially as I was playing with an injury for the majority of last season,” he said.

“Now, all being well and assuming I stay fully fit, I want to become twice the player I was last season.

“I was quite shocked to do so well at the awards night and to get the supporters’ prize, from the people who pay to watch us, was very special.

“As for the players’ player, I don’t think there’s a better accolade.

“These are the people who see the most of you, from the training ground to matchdays.

“For them to say I was their player-of-the-year was very special as they know me most as a footballer and what I’m capable of.”
