ALEX Davies is hoping a new cue specially made for Ronnie O’Sullivan will rocket him to success in 2014/15.

The Clacton professional enjoyed his first season back on snooker’s main tour, thrashing former world champion Shaun Murphy and appearing on Eurosport against John Higgins, Neil Robertson and O’Sullivan himself.

However, he admits his form was up and down – a problem he hopes to rectify with his new top-quality cue.

“It was given to me by Ronnie’s cousin, Michael,” said Davies, who was on the world tour before but dropped off in 2008.

“Ronnie has a number especially made for him by (world-renowned manufacturer) John Parris.

“He then picks the one he wants to use. I was practising the other day and Ronnie’s cousin, who I know, came into the club in Witham.

“He spotted a problem with my cue and said I was welcome to use the one made for Ronnie.

“I had a few shots with it and was pinging balls in from everywhere. It felt lovely.

“Michael said I could keep it, so I’m hoping it brings me luck.”

Davies is heading to Gloucester for the Wuxi Classic qualifying rounds, which get under way on Saturday.

The former English Amateur Championship winner faces Mark Joyce.
