CLACTON Rugby Club skipper Ben Buxey admitted being overwhelmed after leading his side to a historic promotion.
The Seasiders are heading up to London League division three north-east – the highest level they have ever competed at – after winning their play-off against Newmarket 18-17, on Saturday.
They emerged victorious thanks to tries from James Garrod and Aaron Redpath and a conversion and two penalties from Darren Tully.
“I was a very happy and proud captain,” said Buxey, who skippers the side in tandem with Shane Jerram “It hasn’t really sunk in yet and is still a bit of a blur."
