TENDRING Volleyball Club’s James Baker is set for European action.

The 19-year-old has made the final cut to represent England at the European Volleyball Confederation Under-20 Championship, in Sofia.

Baker and his team-mates are set to fly out first thing this morning ahead of matches against the Netherlands tomorrow, hosts Bulgaria on Saturday and Greece on Sunday.

“I’m very pleased and honoured to have been selected,” said former Tendring Technology College student Baker, who lives in Walton.

“It will be a tough challenge against some high-ranking national sides.

“But it will be an amazing experience and something I’m very much looking forward to.

“I won seven caps at under-19 level and then played a couple of matches for the under-20s earlier this year, against Azerbaijan and Norway.

“We won the first and lost the second, but that was enough for us to go forward to these European Championships.”
