SKIPPER Mark Jones is backing high-profile new signing Mervyn Westfield to be a major hit for Frinton Cricket Club.

The former Essex man smashed an unbeaten century in a friendly against Harold Wood, on Saturday.

He bludgeoned 121 not out in an easy victory for the Tendring side.

And with the new Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship season set to begin this weekend, Jones believes Westfield will be a big hit at Ashlyns Road.

“It was great to see Merv finally on the field in a Frinton shirt,” he said.
