CLACTON Rugby Club have made history.

And after securing their highest-ever league finish, they are now setting their sights on a glorious promotion.

The Seasiders have reached the London League play-offs and face a showdown against the Eastern Counties League division one runners-up – likely to be either Newmarket or Ely.

Clacton finished second in Essex League division one, thanks to a helping hand from previous leaders Dagenham.

The south Essex side have been docked points, for failing to fulfil a fixture at Vista Road on March 22.

And that scenario has elevated Clacton into second spot, behind champions Billericay.

“Whatever happens, it’s been a great season and this is our highest-ever finishing position," said coach Matt Mahoney.

“But now that we’re in the play-offs, we’d be really disappointed not to finish the job and get promoted."
