CLACTON’S Cliff Haynes overcame a freak injury to celebrate his biggest achievement in powerlifting.
The 53-year-old suffered a bizarre toe injury the night before competing in the Great Britain Powerlifting Federation Masters Championship, in Horncastle, Lincolnshire.
However, adrenaline powered him through and he ended up setting a host of new bests, including a lifetime best total.
In addition to winning his Masters Two 74kg category, he also managed a new British bench press record and a British Masters total record of 651 kilogrammes.
