HOLLAND Shore Amateur Boxing Club’s Lewis Adams picked up his fourth win of the season after success at the National University Championships.

He won the under-20 bout class, in Sheffield.

Competing at lightweight, as there were no bantamweight entries, Adams was up against Bath Univerity’s Shane Sandham. His opponent, who has won 15 bouts and lost three, looked stern opposition and so it proved.

Boxing over four two-minute rounds, both found it tough going as they stood toe-to-toe and contested them hard.

Adams won the first by trying to keep his distance with long left hands, before opening up with sharp combinations.

The Bath boxer maybe edged the second as both again stood ring centre, opening up with heavy-handed combinations.

Going into the third, Adams was again allowed to keep his distance, as he began catching his opponent with sharp uppercuts as he walked forward.

The fourth round was tough for both boxers, as it swayed first in one boy’s favour and then the other.

Adams, though, was now looking the stronger as the Bath boxer began to tire.

The Holland Shore ace took a close points decision.
