TENDRING Volleyball Club are setting their sights on promotion.

And after notching their fifth straight National League division one victory, confidence and spirits are sky-high at the Frinton-based side.

Their latest success was Saturday’s 25-22, 25-22, 22-25, 25-18 triumph against visitors Birmingham University, at Tendring Technology College.

It leaves them fifth in the table and within a cluster of teams vying for top spot, or a play-off berth in second place.

“We’re in contention to go up this year and that’s our ambition,” said Tendring chairman and player Alex Porter.

“It’s got to be and, if we’re successful, it will open many doors in terms of recruiting new players, like those playing in Ipswich and Chelmsford.

“They’ll realise it will be worth travelling a bit further to play at the highest level.

“We’re a home-grown team and it could be an exciting year because if we go up, it’ll be the first time we’ve ever been a Super 8s team.

“That’s some going for a small team like ourselves, in the middle or nowhere with a much smaller catchment area than many of our rivals from big cities or universities.”
