GREAT Bentley have been rocked by the resignation of first-team manager Richie Herbert.

Herbert, who has served the club as a player, committee man and then manager for more than a quarter of a century, cited lack of player commitment as his main reason.

He stepped down after the club’s recent Kent Blaxill Essex and Suffolk Border League premier division defeat against Holland FC.

Chairman Andy Walker said he had reluctantly accepted Herbert’s resignation, but hoped he would continue to support the club in some capacity.

Assistant boss Jamie LePage has accepted the role of manager for the second half of the season.
