BRIGHTLINGSEA Regent boss James Webster was left shell-shocked after his side conceded two late sucker-punch goals, in today's FA Vase third-round tie at home to Colney Heath.

Regent looked to have sealed their place in the last 32 after first-half strikes from Jake Holman and Kevin Coyle, both following long throws by Josh Gould.

But Spartan South Midland League premier division side Colney Heath pulled one back and swiftly converted a hotly-disputed last-gasp penalty, awarded for an alleged trip by Jake Gould.

“We were in control of the game,” said Webster, whose side will try again in Tuesday's replay in Hertfordshire.

Regent’s goals came in the latter stages of the first half.

Holman smashed high into the net from close range and Coyle produced a clinical finish, before Regent had valid penalty claims for a foul on Terry Rymer.

The linesman gave it, but, crucially, not the referee.

Colney Heath gave themselves a lifeline in the closing stages and then, dramatically, netted from the spot in the last few seconds.

Even then, Brightlingsea had more penalty appeals after what looked a blatant foul on Rymer.

However, once again, their claims fell on deaf ears.

Elsewhere in the Vase, BRANTHAM ATHLETIC staged an incredible comeback to book their place in the last 32.

Paul Abraham’s side were two-down with 30 minutes left at Haringey Borough.

They were unlucky to be behind at the break, having conceded an early header, and the hosts’ second came against the run of play just after the hour-mark.

However, Brantham gave themselves a double boost after goalkeeper Ryan Bedingfield saved a penalty and Jack Sibbons made it 2-1.

Ben Deacon levelled matters with a header ten minutes from time and the substitute slid home his side’s winner in extra-time.
