Clacton and Regent feature on Essex Groundhopper Day
NON-LEAGUE fans are in for a treat tomorrow - thanks to the first Essex Groundhopper Day.
Three Thurlow Nunn League premier division matches are being staged at staggered times to give casual spectators the chance to over-dose on their football fix.
WIVENHOE TOWN get proceedings under way with a high noon kick-off at home to Felixstowe & Walton United.
FA Cup heroes FC CLACTON then take centre stage, with Newmarket Town paying a visit to the Rush Green Bowl (3pm).
And then comes arguably the highlight - in the sense that if features two teams from our area - as BRIGHTLINGSEA REGENT do battle with STANWAY ROVERS at 6pm.
There is added spice as the the sides have already played each other twice in quick succession - once in the league at The Hawthorns, when Brightlingsea won 2-1, and once in the FA Vase, when Regent prevailed 3-0.
Tomorrow’s fixture will also be the first for new Rovers boss Angelo Harrop, who was appointed on Wednesday morning as successor Barry Lakin.
Second-placed Brightlingsea will be looking to maintain the stunning form that has gleaned six wins and a draw from their opening nine fixtures.
Boss James Webster is hoping striker Terry Rymer will be fit, but Jake Turner is unavailable for personal reasons and Charlie Thompson is out with a head injury suffered while playing for the Colne Football Academy.
“We’re expecting a really tough game, as everyone at Stanway will be out to impress their new manager.”
To mark the Groundropper Day, Brightlingsea will be giving away copies of a special matchday programme and giving away a free cup of tea to full-paying adults.
The bar will also be running special drinks deals.
