Seasiders' FA Cup adventure grinds to a halt at Greenford
FC CLACTON’S fantastic FA Cup adventure came to an end tonight after they lost 3-1 at North Greenford.
The sides were doing battle in a second qualifying round tie, after drawing 1-1 at the Rush Green Bowl on Saturday.
But it was hosts who secured their ticket into the next round, where they face a trip to either Canvey Island or St Neots Town.
Their first came in the 16th minute, from the penalty spot, after a foul by Steve Downes.
Adam Daniels steered Clacton back on level terms after the break, turning in a free-kick from Kyelan Marvell.
But Greenford regained their lead with a close-range header that crept inside the right-hand post.
And they added a third in the closing stages after a weak header back by Brad Westley.
Clacton had two goals disallowed – one for offside and one for pushing in the box – and their other best chances fell to Marvell and Aaron Condon.
Their FA Cup adventure featured victories against Sporting Bengal United, Hullbridge Sports and Ryman League outfit Brentwood Town.
