Brightlingsea Regent have soared to the top of the Thurlow Nunn League.
James Webster’s buoyant side are a point clear at the premier division summit after Tuesday’s 5-0 demolition of neighbours Wivenhoe Town, at North Road.
Josh Gould plundered a hat-trick, in addition to goals from centre-half Kevin Hughes and former FC Clacton striker Terry Rymer.
It means Regent have won six and drawn one of their eight games, accruing an impressive 18 points.
That tally is one more than second-placed Norwich United.
Tuesday’s romp also means Brightlingsea have scored nine goals in their last two games, having thumped basement boys Woodbridge 4-0 on Saturday.
Hughes scored twice, in addition to goals from Liam Whittaker and Ricky Griggs.
Regent are now preparing for an attractive FA Vase second qualifying round tie at home to neighbours Stanway Rovers, on Saturday (3pm). They host Hadleigh on Tuesday.
