Goal feast for Westlakes

CLACTON finished their Winter League season on an emphatic note, maintaining their 100 per cent record with a 14-7 victory against Basildon.

They swept their visitors away with some high-quality water polo.

A particularly impressive performance came from former Ipswich Town star Ian Westlake.

He stepped into goal-scoring form and almost every shot he had found the back of the net.

It left him with a final tally of nine goals in the match.

With Adrian Westlake scoring twice, and father Nick Westlake also on target in the final quarter, it was a Westlake family goal-feast and they were joined by a single goal apiece from David Green and Jeremy Cox.

Captain James Fry looked back over another successful season in which his side totally dominated every match, with the exception of a close derby at Colchester.

They have now gone more than two years without a loss and look forward to the forthcoming summer season with great confidence.

Team (goals in brackets): Mick Eastman, Ian Westlake (9), Adrian Westlake (2), Nick Westlake (1), Jeremy Cox (1), David Green (1), Mick Rodwell, James Fry.
