Event planned to showcase best of Tendring sport

AN event is being organised to showcase sports clubs across Tendring.

The Youth Action Day will be held at Tendring Technology College, in Frinton, on September 14.

A similar festival was held four years ago and attracted a bumper crowd of 3,000.

Now clubs and organisations are being encouraged to get involved once again to make this autumn’s version even bigger.

“The aim is to showcase local sports, arts and recreational activities to youngsters,” said co-organiser Sargeant Pete Gerard, from the Tendring rural neighbourhood policing team, based in Walton.

“The last one was a huge success and people were able to try sports, as well as doing things like playing instruments and watching dance groups and live music.

“We hope that by showcasing local clubs, some youngsters may be drawn to join and will therefore occupy themselves in a constructive way, rather than hanging on a street corner.

“We hope as many clubs and organisations as possible get involved and the ethos behind this year’s event is ‘inspire a community’.”

For more information or to get involved, contact 01255 678888 or e-mail Sergeant Gerard via 1998@essex.pnn.police.uk or PC Robert Diss via Robert.Diss@essex.pnn.police.uk A meeting for clubs hoping to be involved has been scheduled for April 23, at 7.30pm.
