Foakes on Lions duty Down Under

BEN Foakes scored three runs as the England Lions suffered another heavy defeat in their five-match series against Australia A.

They are now 2-0 down after losing by 122 runs in Hobart on Monday.

Essex’s Foakes, who plays his club cricket for Frinton and lives in Kirby-le-Soken, faced just six balls before being run out as the tourists – responding to 315 for seven – were dismissed for 193.

England lost the first match by seven wickets on Saturday – a game in which batsman and wicket-keeper Foakes made a rapid 56.

He helped the tourists set a respectable total of 259 for six but Australia A eased past the victory post to get the five-match series off to a winning start in Hobart.

It means the Lions are still win-less on their tour Down Under, as they also lost all three warm-up matches against Victoria.

The remaining three matches against Australia A take place tomorrow, on Monday and then next Friday.
