British bronze is a boost for Josef
7:00am Friday 18th January 2013 in Sport By Matt Plummer
A TENDRING Technology College student exceeded expectations by claiming a medal at the British Judo Championships.
Walton Judo Club’s Josef Sullivan, from Kirby Cross, scooped a bronze at the first attempt, when competing in Sheffield.
Having recently defended his area title, the 13-year-old is now beginning to shine on the national stage.
Last weekend’s competition is the highest level domestic event in the judo calendar, attracting the very best the home nations have to offer.
“I was extremely proud to have been mat-side to support Josef,” said Walton coach Mark Salter.
“He has pushed himself very hard throughout the last year, putting in many hours of training up and down the country.
“There’s still more to come and he’s a shining example to others at the club of what they can achieve.
“Hopefully he will inspire them to follow in his footsteps.”
