Ray: we must build on battling display

THE hard work starts now.

That’s the message from FC Clacton boss Ray Turner, following his side’s morale-boosting 2-2 draw at home to promotion-chasing Stanway Rovers on New Year’s Day.

The Seasiders ended a run of defeats by coming back from behind twice, thanks to goals from Rob Thorne and Adam Daniels.

And after making such an uplifting start to 2013, Turner has challenged his players to build on it in Saturday’s Thurlow Nunn League premier division trip to Ely City.

“The players know the standard they need to get to and we’ve got to keep replicating performances like the one we produced on New Year’s Day,” said Turner.

“It’s about building and the hard work starts now.

“We’ve got to take the confidence gained from Stanway into Saturday’s massive match at Ely. It will count for nothing if we go there and lose.

“It’s up to me to prepare the team as best I can and up to the players to perform on the day.

“If we do that and get the right result, I can really see us improving and moving forward in the new year.”
