Champion Steve is feeling on top of the world

CLACTON’S Steve Tandy admitted being “numb with shock” after making a glorious return to motorsport – and ending up as world champion.

The 54-year-old, who has just returned from a two-decade lay-off from oval racing, has completed a phenomenal season in the National Super Rods.

In addition to winning the World Championship, he also claimed the British Championship and National Points Championship.

He came second in the English Championship and English Longtrack Championship, never finished lower than fourth and won 12 of his 30 races.

“It’s been an incredible return, right from the start,” said former British and European rally champion Tandy, who dedicated his world championship to close friend and race car supremo Mark Miller, of Miller Motorsport.

“I led from day one and was never caught all year in the World Championship.

“I knew it was coming but what a shock it was when I got confirmation I’d won."
