Turner: we need to have the confidence to score more goals

FC CLACTON boss Ray Turner wants his side to have the confidence to score more goals.

The shot-shy Seasiders are bottom of the Thurlow Nunn League premier division, heading into this afternoon’s match at Godmanchester Rovers (kick-off 3pm).

And they will be desperate to get back on track, after big defeats in the last week against Felixstowe and Walton and Stanway Rovers.

The latter was a 3-0 reverse in the Red Insure Challenge Cup first round on Tuesday night.

But despite the blow, Turner said: “It was a much-improved performance from Saturday.

“The boys worked so hard, especially in the first half.

“We more than matched them and possibly edged it, until the second goal went in.

“Stanway punished us when they had chances and we need to become just as ruthless and clinical.

“When we go forward, we’ve got to believe we’re going to score goals.

“If anything, we just need a break - a shot to deflect in off someone’s back side.

“It’s hard when you’re bottom of the table and lacking confidence, but if we could just win a game I’m fairly sure we’d go on to win the next one.

“We just need to get over that hurdle.”
