Question time for MP...
DOUGLAS Carswell MP must feel that the issue of political funding is of the utmost importance as he chose it for the subject of his first ever question at Prime Minister's Question Time. It would not have been my choice but, as my Member of Parliament, I accept that his considered opinion is that political funding was the topic that his constituents wanted him to raise.
As he believes that this is so important to local residents I am sure he will now accept that his constituents will consider it equally important that he explains why the Belize based businessman, Lord Ashcroft, chose to fund Mr Carswell's election campaign and to also explain what connection Lord Ashcroft has with this constituency that made him wish to do so.
Ian Beckett. Councillor for St Mary's. Clacton
