A man was stabbed in the face after two men tried to force their way into his home.
Emergency services, included an air ambulance, rushed to the scene shortly after the incident at 10.30am this morning.
A man in his 50s has been taken to hospital after suffering a stab wound to the face.
Two men had knocked on the door of his home, when he answered, they attempted to force their way in and assaulted him.
Enquiries are ongoing to locate the suspects.
An Essex Police spokesman said: "We were called to a disturbance in Orange Street, Canvey, just after 10.30am today, Wednesday, March 21.
"Two men knocked at the door of a home. When the door was answered, they forced their way in and assaulted a man aged in his 50s. He suffered a stab wound to the face and has been taken to hospital.
"Enquiries are ongoing to locate the suspects.
"Anyone with information is asked to call Basildon CID on 101, quoting 324 of March 21."
A spokesman from the ambulance service said: "We were called to an incident at 10.41am today in Canvey Island.
"One ambulance crews and two ambulance officer and a rapid response vehicle and CQ East Anglian Air Ambulance were dispatched.
"They treated a man with a head injury who was taken to hospital for further care.
"His condition is unknown."
