There will be no further action taken in the case against muder investigation victim John Masser.

The Crown Prosecution Service appeared at Basildon Crown Court earlier this week where they offered no evidence in the case against him.

The move is a means of terminating legal proceedings in relation to that case and there will be no further action taken.

John Masser, 49, from Vange, appeared at Basildon Crown Court last month, where he denied carrying out a sex attack on a 16-year-old in 1986.

During the hearing, it was agreed that he could be released on bail- with the condition he did not have any contact with the alleged victim.

Mr Masser strongly refuted the allegation and was set to stand trial on November 27.

The dad lost his fight for life earlier this month after being attacked at the junction of Moss Drive and Moss Close, in Basildon, outside a friend's home.

Neighbours said they heard a commotion outside and saw a man being assaulted.

Mr Masser was taken to Basildon Hospital but died of a suspected brain haemorrhage three days later.

Steven Keeble, 36, of Moss Close, Vange, has appeared at Basildon Magistrates' Court charged in connection with Mr Masser's death.
