A casualty was freed from their car after it overturned in a busy road in Grays.

Firefighters  from Grays and Orsett worked with paramedics to secure the scene and safely extract the casualty after the crash, which took place in Southend Road.

A spokesman for the fire service said: "Firefighters were called to assist at the scene of a road traffic collision involving two vehicles, where one vehicle had overturned on its side.

"Fire crews stablised the vehicle to ensure it was safe and helped paramedics release one casualty trapped in the vehicle.

"The casualty was released by 3:30pm and left in the care of the Ambulance Service."

It is unknown if the casualty was the driver of the vehicle and the extent of their injuries are unclear at this time.

The ambulance service have been contacted for comment.
