FIRE crews were called to tackle a blaze that broke out on the back of a car transporter.

The slip road on to the London-bound A13 at junction 30 of the M25 was closed after two cars on the back of the transporter set alight.

One crew from Orsett and two crews from Grays were called to try and extinguish the fire at about 12.20am this morning (June 16).

On arrival crews reported that the two vehicles on a car transporter were 100 per cent alight and the fire was beginning to spread to other vehicles.

Crews worked to extinguish the fire by 1.20am.

The slip road has now been reopened as the car transporter has now been recovered almost 10 hours after the incident.

There was severe traffic for commuters this morning and there is still heavy congestion on the surrounding roads including the A1306 and the A282.
