POLICE have been granted special powers to move on nuisance youths from a particular area in Pitsea this weekend.

Lasting for 48 hours, from 6pm tonight to 6pm on Sunday, a dispersal order will allow police officers and designated police community support officers to deal with people engaging in anti-social behaviour, crime and disorder.

It can be used for issues taking place at the time, or when officers suspect anti-social behaviour is likely to occur.

This power has been granted in response to reports of anti-social behaviour affecting businesses and customers in the Pitsea retail park and Pitsea market areas of Northlands Park (shown in the attached map).

Basildon Council is in support of the dispersal order.

Officers will be on patrol in this area during the period of the notice and will issue notices to anyone causing problems.

Anyone who refuses to leave the area once directed can be arrested and, if convicted, they could face up to a three month prison sentence and a £2,500 fine.

Members of the public using the restaurants and businesses in this area will be unaffected.

The Basildon Community Policing Team can be reached on 101.
