COUNCIL diggers have been shifting sand on Shoebury Common Beach.
The Friends of Shoebury Common believe the annual operation to shift sand from one part of the beach to another is needless.
Peter Grubb, from the group, said: “Banked up sand by the slipway is being spread out over the full beach. Hopefully history will not be repeated and the levelled beach will not get washed out to sea with the January high tides as happened in the past.”
A council spokesman, said: “This is part of an annual programme to redistribute sand on Shoebury beach and is part of our coastal management.
“It is being done at this time of year because the tides are lower and this gives us the best opportunity to carry out the work successfully.”
Plans to build a huge seawall across part of Shoebury Common were scrapped following a public outcry.
