DOMINIQUE Burrows was tragically killed when his motorbike collided with a car.

He was, by all accounts, an ardent campaigner and righter of wrongs. Now his daughter, Anna, has followed in those footsteps and become a campaigner on behalf of her late father.

She wants changes brought to the stretch of Ness Road, Shoebury, where Dominique died, so that there are no more victims or grieving families.

Police inquiries are still ongoing, so it is not possible to comment in detail about the accident. However, anyone familiar with Ness Road will endorse Anna’s case.

Illegal parking on double yellow lines creates a definite hazard. By reducing visibility and manoeuvre room, it adds to the danger facing drivers.

Anna blames these parked cars for her father’s death, and she wants action.

As she says, the double yellow lines are there for a very good reason, but they do not send out a strong enough signal.

She wants to see them replaced by the more powerful disincentive of zigzag lines.

She also wants speed bumps to slow down the traffic.

How sad that it so often takes a tragic accident, or even a series of them, at a particular spot, to generate even the most obviously needed improvements.
