A TORY councillor has denied assaulting a Ukip candidate.
Castle Point councillor Bill Sharp, 67, of Softwater Lane, Benfleet, appeared at Southend Magistrates' Court this morning to plead not guilty to beating Ukip candidate James Parkin in Benfleet on March 14.
Sharp was released on unconditional bail ahead of his trial at the court on January 4.
