BEAVER Scouts got the chance to show off their kayaking skills to their parents at a family fun day.

The 4th Rochford Beavers spent the day on the River Chelmer, showing their parents how it was done.

Using five kayaks, five leaders, ten Beavers, 11 parents and six siblings took to the water at Paper Mill Lock, Little Baddow, taking it in turns in the kayaks.

The event was all the better for a glorious, sunny autumn day.

The first dad out on the water only got about 5ft into his great kayaking expedition before falling in – much to the amusement of all the children.

The group’s Lyn Smee said: “Some of the people living there on the boats came out to speak to everyone and watch all the fun. All in all, it was a great afternoon for everyone and they can't wait until next time.”
