Detectives have appealed for information following a suspected robbery which resulted into two cars colliding head-on in Basildon.

The incident happened at Gordon Road shortly after 3pm on Tuesday June 30 when a number of men from a Ford Mondeo car tried to rob two men in a BMW X5.

Officers believe the cars collided when the BMW tried to get away.

At least six men were involved in a fight after the crash before the assailants left in a Mercedes car.

The two men from the BMW, who were both aged in their 20s and from London, were found nearby and have been questioned by police.

Five men were arrested on suspicion of robbery when a car was stopped in Feeches Road, Southend.

The men, one aged 18 and the others all in the 20s, are being bailed until various dates in September pending further enquiries.

Any witnesses who have not yet contacted police or anyone with information about events leading to the incident should contact DC Rob Lewis at Basildon CID on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
