JOBS in south Essex were the topic of conversation as an MP visited a national centre for creativity.

Mark Francois, the new Thames Gateway Minister, visited High House Production Park, in Purfleet.

The site will open a National College for Creative Industries next year offering courses for students who want a job in film, TV or stage.

Mr Francois, who is MP for Rayleigh and Wickford, said creative jobs would play a role in south Essex’s economic renaissance.

He said: “The creative industries were already very important for Thurrock, and when they made me Thames Gateway Minister I thought, where should I visit first?”

“It’s a unique project, with the High House Production Park and the new National College for Creative Industries that’s planned, so I came because I wanted to see what’s an exciting and creative development.”

Also with Mr Francois was Thurrock MP Jackie Doyle-Price. She said: “There is no doubt of the potential for jobs and growth here in Thurrock and more widely across South Essex.

"In order that we can maximise those growth opportunities it is important that we build relationships with Government as well as with other local authorities and business partners to deliver the South Essex economic powerhouse.

"It was good to be able to share our vision with Mark who is both a South Essex MP and the Minister responsible for growth in our area."
