SOUTHEND UNITED fans have wished Cambridge United supporter Simon Dobbin well as he fights for his life in hospital.

Mr Dobbin, 41, suffered serious head injuries after being attacked while on his way to Prittlewell station after the game between the two sides at Roots Hall, Southend, on Saturday, March 21.

He was taken to Southend Hospital where he is still being treated and is said to be in a critical condition and fighting for his life.

The donation website set up to support Mr Dobbin’s family as they travel between his Suffolk home and Southend has now reached more than £9,000 and Shrimpers fans have passed on their best wishes.

Fred Smith, a Blues fan, posted: “It makes me feel sick to think a Shrimper might have done such a thing. I wish Simon a speedy recovery.”

Barry Gray, another Blues supporter, said: “I am so ashamed of what has happened. I have been a Southend fan for nearly 40 years, and I have never, in all that time, felt such disgust for those who call themselves Shrimpers fans. All of my thoughts are with Simon and his family. I pray he pulls through.”
