A £400,000 REFURBISHMENT of one of Old Leigh’s traditional pubs is nearing completion.

After closing its doors five weeks ago, the Peterboat will reopen tomorrow with a new look, which includes a greatly expanded view over the Thames Estuary for customers, and extended bar area and more tables.

The refurbishment, by the Southend-based East Anglia Pub Company, has also included a completely new roof and kitchen.

East Anglia area manager Nick Turner said the company was determined to keep improving the pub six years after taking ownership.

He said: “The bar area has been extended by three times all the way around, making it much bigger, and while it might not sound a lot, it makes an incredible difference when you’re standing there.

“More people can have that sea view too, and we’ve increased the number of tables in the bar and restaurant area.

“It’s been an extensive refurbishment with not much change from £400,000, but we are always looking to improve further.”

Live music duo Ash – Phil Ball and TrudyCross–will be helping the pub celebrate its new-look on Friday. Complementary drinks will be available.

Across Southend, the company also owns the Bellhouse, the Exchange, the Trading Rooms and the Hamlet Court.
